Aminata Seck wins legal battle to overturn deportation order
Aminata Seck, a 26-year-old Senegalese basketball player for Kentucky State University, has achieved a significant legal victory regarding her immigration status. An immigration judge accepted her request to reopen her case and overturned her final deportation order.
Seck’s defense argued that she never received notice for her initial hearing. Following this decision, she is eligible to apply for bond and is scheduled for a new immigration court appearance on November 20. Her legal team is also pursuing a federal habeas corpus petition to challenge the legality of her detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Seck has been in ICE custody since August 7 and has faced serious health challenges during her detention, including epilepsy and an anterior cruciate ligament rupture.
