Aminata Sow joins President Bassirou Diomaye Faye's Kiiraay party, weakening Pastef in Senegal

Aminata Sow, a political leader from the Keur Massar department, announced her departure from the Pastef party of former prime minister Ousmane Sonko to join Kiiraay, the political formation of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. She said, "Forte de mon expérience dans l'entrepreneuriat, l'économie sociale et solidaire, le leadership féminin, l'accompagnement des organisations communautaires et le développement local, je souhaite mettre mes compétences et mon engagement au service de cette dynamique nationale afin de contribuer à l'amélioration des conditions de vie des Sénégalais."

Sow’s move is presented as a contribution to the president’s social and economic policies and an effort to help secure a second term. Analysts expect the defection to bolster Kiiraay’s position ahead of upcoming municipal elections while further eroding Pastef’s support in the Keur Massar area.
