Amit Shah chairs Southern Zonal Council and visits Siliguri for security reviews

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is conducting high-level meetings across India, focusing on regional security and inter-state cooperation. In Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, Shah chaired the 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting. The summit brought together Chief Ministers from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Telangana to discuss critical issues including inter-state water-sharing disputes—specifically regarding the Cauvery river and Mullaperiyar dam—as well as delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies and regional infrastructure development.

Simultaneously, Shah is undertaking a three-day visit to Siliguri, West Bengal, to review security in the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor, known as the ‘Chicken’s Neck’. His agenda includes inaugurating infrastructure projects for the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), interacting with security personnel through a traditional ‘Bara Khana’ meal, and attending an exhibition on India’s three new criminal laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. He is also scheduled to chair a high-level border security review meeting.
