During this visit, Shah also inaugurated infrastructure projects for the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and showcased India’s new criminal laws, describing the framework as ‘more transparent, technology-driven, and victim-centric’.

Concluding his visit, Shah addressed regional political stability by meeting with Gorkha community leaders and political representatives from the Darjeeling hills. He announced the formation of a committee, led by former BSF Director General Pankaj Kumar Singh, to draft an agreement and finalize modalities for a ‘permanent political solution’ regarding Gorkha identity and constitutional recognition.

Regarding border management, Shah criticized the previous Mamata Banerjee-led government for delaying land allotments required for fencing, while crediting the current administration under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for the prompt allotment of 1,129 acres of land to the BSF and SSB to strengthen frontier security.
