Amit Thackeray booked for removing PM Modi's photo in Pune

An FIR has been registered against Amit Raj Thackeray, president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS), and approximately 20 to 25 unidentified associates following an incident at the Government Polytechnic in Pune.

During a visit to inspect college infrastructure, Thackeray allegedly entered the principal's office without permission and ordered the removal of a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Thackeray reportedly objected to the portrait being displayed alongside historic icons Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, arguing that current leaders should be displayed on separate walls according to protocol.

The complainant, Dr. Rajendra Kashiram Patil, accused the group of intimidation, chanting slogans, and causing a disturbance. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the act as “political immaturity” and a violation of mandatory display protocols. Law enforcement has initiated an investigation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Maharashtra Police Act.
