Pune police case against Amit Thackeray

Amit Thackeray, president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, and approximately 20 to 25 associates have been booked by Pune police following an incident at the Government Polytechnic in Ganeshkhind.
The dispute arose during a visit to inspect college infrastructure. According to complaints, Thackeray and his supporters allegedly entered the principal’s office without permission, caused a disturbance by shouting slogans, and intimidated staff. A central point of the incident involved the removal of a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the office. Thackeray reportedly argued that the portrait should not be displayed alongside historic icons such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, suggesting that current leaders should be displayed on separate walls according to protocol.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has condemned the incident as “political immaturity.” Law enforcement has initiated an investigation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Police Act.
