Turkey advances major metro and logistics infrastructure projects
Turkey's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has announced several major infrastructure developments. In Istanbul, the ministry has officially assumed authority over the construction of the Ümraniye-Kavacık-Beykoz metro line. This 17.5-kilometer project, featuring 14 stations, aims to alleviate heavy traffic in the city's Anatolian side by connecting major business and residential hubs.
In Rize, Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu inaugurated the Çamlıhemşin Tunnel and associated bridges. This project is expected to reduce travel time to Ayder Plateau by 20 minutes and generate an annual saving of 772 million TL. Additionally, significant progress has been made on the İyidere Logistics Port, which has reached 82 percent physical completion. The port is designed to serve as a strategic logistics hub in the Black Sea, with a capacity to handle 11 million tons of cargo annually.
Minister Uraloğlu highlighted that these investments are part of a broader national effort to modernize Turkey's transportation network, noting that since 2002, the country has significantly expanded its highway, tunnel, and bridge infrastructure.
