Amnesty International condemns Pakistan over enforced disappearance of Baloch activist Jiand Baloch
Amnesty International issued a statement condemning Pakistan for the forced disappearance of Jiand Baloch, the 29‑year‑old chairperson of the Baloch Students Organization. Jiand was taken from his home in Quetta, Balochistan, on 24 July 2026 after ten men identifying as law‑enforcement officers and four in plain clothes entered the house, assaulted his family and seized him without explanation. The police have refused to register a first‑information report.
The organization highlighted the historic discrimination and marginalisation of Baloch people in Pakistan and noted that crackdowns on Baloch activists have intensified since 2025, leading to a pattern of enforced disappearances and arbitrary detentions across the province.
