Balochistan enforced disappearances

Overview

In late July 2026 Pakistani security forces carried out multiple raids in Balochistan that resulted in the disappearance of several civilians and activists. A July 21 raid in Mastung district and a July 25 operation in Quetta’s Hudda neighbourhood led to the detention of families, including the central chairman of the Baloch Students Organisation, Jihand Baloch, and a household of a mother, her three young children, and relatives. Simultaneous raids in Kalat detained more than 20 people, with reports of abuse.

The next day the Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department publicly condemned the pattern of forced disappearances, naming four individuals taken between March and July and demanding an independent investigation.

On 31 July, Amnesty International issued a statement condemning Pakistan for the forced disappearance of Jiand Baloch, the 29‑year‑old chairperson of the Baloch Students Organization. Jiand was taken from his Quetta home on 24 July after ten men in law‑enforcement uniforms and four in plain clothes entered, assaulted his family and seized him without explanation. Pakistani police have refused to register a first‑information report. Amnesty highlighted the historic discrimination of Baloch people and noted that crackdowns on activists have intensified since 2025, creating a continuing pattern of enforced disappearances and arbitrary detentions across the province.
