Balochistan enforced disappearances

Overview

In late July 2026, Pakistani security forces conducted multiple raids in Balochistan, resulting in the disappearance of several civilians and activists. A July 21 raid in Mastung district, involving approximately 60 Frontier Corps personnel, led to the disappearance of six people from the Killi Kongarh area, including 33-year-old Bibi Rafia, her three young children, her brother Muhammad Arif, and her niece Bibi Nida. A July 25 operation in Quetta’s Hudda neighbourhood saw the Counter Terrorism Department enter the home of Jihand Baloch, the 29-year-old chairperson of the Baloch Students Organisation, where they allegedly assaulted his family and seized him. Simultaneous raids in Kalat detained more than 20 people, with reports of physical abuse.

The Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department condemned these patterns, naming four specific individuals—Arif, Atik Khetran, Miran Baloch, and Nasir Baloch—who were reportedly taken between March and July. The group blamed the Pakistan Military Intelligence and the Counter Terrorism Department, demanding an independent investigation.

On 31 July, Amnesty International condemned the disappearance of Jihand Baloch, noting that police refused to register a first-information report. The organization highlighted that crackdowns on activists have intensified since 2025.

In August, Sabiha Baloch of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) alleged systematic state repression, claiming Baloch identity is treated as a ‘mark of suspicion’. The BYC reported that civilians face airstrikes, drone attacks, and continuous raids in areas including Karachi, Maripur, Lyari, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
