Amnesty International Hungary condemns government refugee rhetoric and anti‑Roma law

Amnesty International Hungary and the Hungarian Helsinki Committee criticised the government’s language on refugees, saying it fails to respect human dignity. They cited the proposed refugee camp in Vitnyéd and alleged that the terminology used by the Orbán administration turns neutral migration terms into a political slur. Demeter Áron was quoted, describing the discourse as a "manufactured situation" that politicises the word "migrant".

The same organisation also called for the repeal of a local‑identity protection law, arguing that it creates widespread legal violations and discriminates against Roma and low‑income residents. The statement referred to a 2025 proposal by former minister Navracsics Tibor and urged alignment with the European Court of Human Rights standards to ensure respect for human rights and prevent direct or indirect discrimination.
