Amnesty International protests against racism and migration crisis in Ceuta

Amnesty International has organized demonstrations across Spain, including in Logroño and Bilbao, to denounce racism, hate speech, and human rights violations following the arrival of migrants in Ceuta.

In Logroño, protesters gathered in front of the La Rioja Government Delegation to demand dignified reception for migrants and an end to xenophobia. The mobilization, supported by organizations such as Rioja Acoge and CONGDCAR, featured symbolic items like lifebuoys and flip-flops to highlight the dangers faced by migrants. Zoralys del Valle Rojas, coordinator for Amnesty International in La Rioja, warned against the normalization of institutional violence and the indiscriminate use of force at borders.

In Bilbao, demonstrators gathered at the Government Subdelegation to call for the establishment of safe passage routes to prevent deaths at sea. Jose Belmonte, spokesperson for the Bilbao group, highlighted the rise in hate speech and aggressive rhetoric following the migration crisis. He also called for increased protection for women and girls, as well as for NGOs and journalists providing humanitarian aid and reporting on the situation, who have reportedly faced harassment.
