Ceuta migration and human rights crisis
Overview
Amnesty International has raised serious allegations regarding the treatment of migrants in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Following a mission in September, the organization documented instances of torture, hunger, and religious humiliation, including reports of migrants being forced to kneel and kiss a Christian cross. Physical violence, such as baton strikes causing head injuries and bruising, was also reported.
In response to these findings, demonstrations have been organized across Spain, including in Logroño and Bilbao. Protesters have denounced racism, hate speech, and institutional violence. Activists are demanding dignified reception for migrants, the establishment of safe passage routes to prevent deaths at sea, and increased protection for women, girls, NGOs, and journalists who have reportedly faced harassment.
