Hamas must end extrajudicial executions in Gaza, says Amnesty International

Amnesty International has called on Hamas and its affiliated forces in the Gaza Strip to immediately cease extrajudicial executions of individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel. The human rights organization reported that these killings are being carried out without judicial proceedings, often as part of what Hamas officials describe as a large-scale security campaign.

Amnesty documented nine unlawful killings and executions occurring in the period following the October 2025 ceasefire. In one specific instance, the organization reported that Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, publicly executed eight members of the same family in Gaza City on October 13. According to relatives, the victims had surrendered under the promise of a fair trial but were executed two hours later.

A June 2026 United Nations report corroborated the severity of the situation, identifying 249 cases of extrajudicial executions and severe physical violence in Gaza between August 2024 and early 2026. At least 60 of these cases involved forces affiliated with Hamas. While Hamas has stated it has opened preliminary internal investigations, Amnesty International notes that no responsible parties have been held accountable to date.
