Extrajudicial executions by Hamas-affiliated forces in Gaza

Overview

Human rights organizations and international bodies have raised alarms regarding extrajudicial executions and severe physical violence carried out by Hamas-affiliated groups in the Gaza Strip. Reports indicate that the Resistance Security System and the Al-Qassam Brigades have conducted security operations involving the summary execution of individuals accused of collaborating with or spying for Israel.

Specific incidents documented include the public execution of eight unarmed members of the Dughmush family in October 2025. According to relatives, these victims had surrendered under the promise of a fair trial but were executed two hours later. Amnesty International has verified footage of killings where victims were reportedly bound and shot at close range.

A June 2026 United Nations report documented 249 cases of extrajudicial killings or severe physical violence in Gaza between August 2024 and early 2026, resulting in at least 108 deaths. The report identified that at least 60 of these cases involved forces affiliated with Hamas.

Amnesty International has called on Hamas to immediately cease these killings, noting that nine unlawful executions occurred in the period following the October 2025 ceasefire. While Hamas officials have stated that internal investigations have been opened, Amnesty International reports that no individuals responsible for these killings have been held accountable. Local rights groups, including Al Mezan and the Independent Commission for Human Rights, continue to demand accountability.
