Amotekun Corps arrests 53 suspects in Ondo State

The Amotekun security force in Ondo State has arrested 53 suspects, including 21 undocumented foreign nationals, in Owo. The suspects were paraded at the corps' headquarters in Akure following allegations of involvement in kidnapping, murder, attempted murder, burglary, theft, and cultism.

The 21 foreign nationals, who reportedly traveled from neighboring West African countries, claimed they intended to perform menial labor and phone repairs but were unable to produce ECOWAS travel documents or other authorization for their stay. State commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye noted a recent influx of undocumented foreigners moving through the state's forests and cities under various guises, such as phone sellers or repairers.

Authorities are also scrutinizing apartment landlords for renting to these individuals without verifying their identities. Additionally, the force uncovered a self-kidnapping scam involving four suspects who used social media to stage fake abductions for money, and successfully rescued two boys who had been kidnapped and were working within the Fulani community.
