Edo Queens win WAFU-B title and qualify for CAF Women’s Champions League

Edo Queens have been crowned WAFU-B Women’s Champions League winners after defeating Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies in a dramatic final in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Following a 2-2 draw in regulation time, the Nigerian champions secured a 4-1 victory in a penalty shootout to claim the regional title and the sole qualification spot for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Individual honors were distributed following the tournament, with Edo Queens forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi named Player of the Tournament and Doosuur Anastasia Atume receiving the Golden Boot for being the top scorer. Despite an impressive run by Ampem Darkoa, which included a group-stage victory over Edo Queens, the Ghanaian side missed out on continental qualification.

In separate regional handball competition, the Benin women’s national team, the Amazones, won the IHF Nations Trophy (Zone III) by defeating Côte d’Ivoire 29-28 in the final. This victory secures their qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Handball Championship in Tunisia. Meanwhile, the Liberian women’s handball team finished at the bottom of the IHF Nations Trophy standings after four consecutive losses.
