Following a formal protest by the Ghana Football Association, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has annulled the penalty-shootout victory. CAF determined that officials erroneously directed the teams straight to a penalty shootout instead of the mandatory two 15-minute periods of extra time required by competition regulations. CAF noted the error resulted from “erroneous administrative instructions” and was not the fault of either club.

While CAF rejected requests for a full replay, ruling the 90 minutes played were valid, the final must now resume from the beginning of extra time with the score tied at 2-2. If the score remains level after extra time, a new penalty shootout will determine the winner and the qualifying spot.
