Amprion CEO seeks more security freedoms for German power grid
Christoph Müller, CEO of the German transmission grid operator Amprion, is calling for increased operational freedoms to enhance the security of critical energy infrastructure. Following a series of sabotage attacks on substations, Müller argued that current transparency requirements regarding the location and details of power and gas networks may inadvertently assist attackers.
Müller has specifically requested that the federal and state governments allow for expanded security measures. These include the use of drones for regular monitoring of the company’s 11,000 kilometers of high-voltage lines and the ability to use video surveillance to monitor areas surrounding their facilities, rather than being restricted to on-site grounds only.
While acknowledging that absolute protection is impossible, Müller stated that Amprion is prepared for potential threats and remains ready to respond to further incidents.
