América-RN begins squad restructuring after Série D elimination

América-RN has begun a significant squad restructuring following its elimination from the Série D round of 16. The club's SAF confirmed the departures of several players to reduce payroll expenses during a period without national matches scheduled until 2027.

Recent departures include goalkeeper José Henrique, right-back Ricardo Luz, and forwards Nycollas Lopo and Cassiano. Cassiano is reportedly in negotiations to join Santa Cruz. These four join seven other players—Wellington Tanque, Paulinho, Josiel, Matheus Régis, and midfielder Alisson Taddei—who have already left the club.

The decision follows the team's loss to Gama in a penalty shootout, which ended their season and eliminated potential revenue from ticket sales and tournament prizes. The club is currently evaluating remaining contracts to plan for its 2027 campaign, which will include the Campeonato Potiguar, Copa do Brasil, and Copa do Nordeste.
