Amritsar airport becomes North India's international hub under new hub‑and‑spoke model

The Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar has launched a hub‑and‑spoke system that allows international passengers to complete check‑in, immigration, customs and baggage drop at the airport before connecting through Delhi to global destinations. The programme, announced by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, aims to cut travel time and boost Punjab's economy, tourism and aviation‑related industries.

Air India has introduced Easy Connect services from Amritsar with two daily flights (AI1113 and AI1115) that provide through‑check‑in to 27 international airports, including London, New York, Toronto, Dubai and Singapore, without re‑checking baggage in Delhi. The minister highlighted that the initiative will deepen links with the Punjabi diaspora and create new growth opportunities.

The hub‑and‑spoke model is expected to serve passengers from Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, enhancing regional connectivity and generating revenue for airlines and ancillary sectors.
