Amritsar Police dismantle international illegal arms smuggling network

Amritsar Rural Police have dismantled an international network involved in the supply of illegal weapons and explosives in Punjab. During the operation, authorities arrested one individual and seized an AK-47 rifle, magazines, ammunition, and two hand grenades.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect has links to smugglers based abroad. The recovered weapons were allegedly intended to cause unrest or facilitate major criminal incidents within the state.

A case has been registered at the Gharinda police station under the Arms Act and the Explosives Substances Act. Police are currently conducting intensive interrogations to uncover the full extent of the network and its connections. This operation follows increased alerts regarding cross-border smuggling via drones in the region.
