Amstel, Gooi en Vecht Water Board lifts irrigation ban

The Amstel, Gooi en Vecht Water Board has lifted the irrigation ban for surface and groundwater due to recent rainfall and forecasted precipitation. The restriction on using surface water will end on Wednesday, August 26, at 06:00, while the ban on groundwater will be lifted on Friday, August 28, at 06:00.

Despite the lifting of these bans, officials describe the water situation as still “worrying.” To fully resolve the current water deficit, rainfall would need to reach approximately four times the average amount for September. The board has urged residents, businesses, and sports clubs to continue using groundwater sparingly, as replenishment takes a significant amount of time.

Certain measures remain in place to combat salinization. The lock at Weesp remains closed, though officials are investigating temporary openings for specific events to facilitate water exchange. Additionally, the Muidertrekvaart remains closed, and emergency pumps are being utilized at Muiderslot.
