Amsterdam police seek identity of mystery man ‘Lucky’

Amsterdam police and the Vancouver Police Department are collaborating with Interpol to identify an unknown man known as ‘Lucky’ who has been living in a Dutch nursing facility since 2023. The man suffered a brain hemorrhage or stroke in Amsterdam on May 10, 2023, which left him with aphasia, a condition that severely limits his ability to communicate his identity.

Following a public appeal, investigators received over 500 tips. Speculation has emerged that the man may be John Russell Kenny, a Canadian who went missing from Vancouver in 1994. Investigators noted similarities between the unidentified man and photos of Kenny, who was described as having a transient lifestyle.

Dutch authorities have noted that ‘Lucky’ was a member of a local Buddhist community and was sometimes referred to by names such as ‘Chris the Canadian.’ While police are investigating these leads, they have cautioned the public against jumping to conclusions to avoid giving false hope to potential family members.
