Identity investigation of unidentified man in Amsterdam

Overview

Authorities in Amsterdam, the Vancouver Police Department, and Interpol are working to identify an unknown man known as ‘Lucky’. The man has resided in a Dutch nursing facility since May 2023, when he suffered a brain hemorrhage or stroke in Amsterdam. The medical event left him with aphasia, which severely limits his ability to communicate his identity.

Following a public appeal that generated over 500 tips, investigators explored a lead suggesting the man might be John Russell Kenny, a Canadian who went missing from Vancouver in 1994. However, Amsterdam police have since ruled out this connection, stating that fingerprint analysis conducted during a joint investigation proved the two men are different people.

While the connection to Kenny has been dismissed, detectives are continuing to investigate at least nine new leads based on specific names provided by the public.
