Amsterdam murder investigation: 23-year-old suspect detained

The Public Prosecution Service has determined that 29-year-old Hajar from Amsterdam was killed on the afternoon of Sunday, October 4, the first day she was reported missing. Her body was discovered on Friday, October 16, inside a suitcase in the water near Amsteldijk in Amsterdam-Zuid.

Police believe the killing occurred in a former school building used for squatting on De Klencke in Buitenveldert. Investigators are currently examining the site. Before her disappearance, Hajar had sent disturbing messages to an acquaintance, prompting her family to report her missing at approximately 20:15 that evening.

A 23-year-old male suspect is currently in custody. He was apprehended in Spierdijk following a violent incident in which he allegedly attacked his foster father with a hammer, causing injuries. The suspect is also being investigated for attempted murder of his foster father and threatening his foster mother. A judge has ordered his detention to be extended for an additional fourteen days.
