Amsterdam homicide investigation of Hajar
Overview
On October 16, the body of 29-year-old Hajar was discovered in the water at Amsteldijk in Amsterdam. She had been missing since October 4, when she was last seen near the RAI convention center riding a bicycle with an unidentified man. Following the discovery, police launched a large-scale investigation, stating they believe the woman died as a result of a crime.
By October 23, the Public Prosecution Service determined that the killing occurred on the afternoon of October 4. Investigators believe the crime took place in a former school building used for squatting on De Klencke in Buitenveldert. The victim's body had been found inside a suitcase.
A 23-year-old male suspect was taken into custody in Spierdijk following a violent incident involving an alleged hammer attack on his foster father. A judge has ordered the suspect's detention to be extended for fourteen days as investigations continue.
