Amsterdam police find weapons and explosives after Osdorp basement blast

Following an explosion in the Osdorp district of Amsterdam on the night of June 11-12, investigators discovered weapons and bomb-making materials in a basement attached to a residential building. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service reported finding a pistol, a machine gun with 200 rounds of ammunition, and materials such as adhesive tape and flash powder that suggest the suspects may have been preparing to attack ATMs.

The blast, which occurred near a gym, injured seven people and forced the evacuation of approximately 400 residents. Two suspects, 23-year-old Yassin B. and 24-year-old Nawfal T., were detained after sustaining severe injuries in the incident. Yassin B. suffered the loss of both legs and significant injuries to his hand, eye, and ear, while Nawfal T. sustained serious burns. DNA evidence from both men was found on the recovered weapons and materials.

During a recent court hearing, both suspects exercised their right to remain silent and remain in custody. Authorities noted that the incident highlights concerns regarding the use of explosives in criminal activities and the potential impact of community silence on preventing such events.
