Explosive incidents and weapons investigations in the NL

Overview

Authorities in the Netherlands are investigating incidents involving explosives and weapons. In Hillegom, police arrested three suspects following a failed attempt to detonate an explosive device at a residence on Lukas Schoonderbeekstraat. In response, local officials authorized temporary camera surveillance to enhance security.

In a separate, more severe incident in the Osdorp district of Amsterdam, an explosion near a gym injured seven people and led to the evacuation of approximately 400 residents. Following the blast, investigators recovered a pistol, a machine gun with 200 rounds of ammunition, and bomb-making materials in a nearby basement. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service indicated that the materials suggest suspects may have been preparing to attack ATMs. Two suspects, Yassin B. and Nawfal T., were detained after sustaining serious injuries during the explosion. Both individuals have remained in custody and exercised their right to remain silent during court proceedings.
