A far-right demonstration in The Hague, organized under the name ‘Wij zijn het volk’ (We are the people), turned violent on Saturday. Approximately 500 participants gathered at Malieveld park to protest against Dutch immigration and asylum policies.

Clashes erupted when demonstrators reportedly targeted riot police with fireworks, flares, and other projectiles. In response, Dutch police deployed water cannons, mounted units, and dogs to disperse the crowd. Local authorities banned a planned march through the city center after the violence broke out.

Observers and government officials reported the presence of extremist symbols, including Nazi salutes and antisemitic slogans. Justice Minister David van Weel condemned the ‘revolting scenes’ and called for an ‘extremely firm’ response to the violence and hate speech. While several arrests were made, the total number of detainees has not been officially confirmed.
