ÖAMTC reports major traffic jams on Austrian highways

On 2 August 2026 the Austrian automobile club ÖAMTC warned of severe travel delays on north‑south routes across Salzburg, Carinthia and Tyrol. The heaviest congestion was on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) between Golling and St. Michael, where block processing was required near the Helbersberg tunnel. A seven‑kilometre backup was also reported before the Karawankentunnel (A11) at the Slovenian border. Additional slow‑downs affected the South Autobahn (A2) south of Bad St. Leonhard, the Brenner Autobahn (A13) after the Schönberg toll station, and the Fernpass road (B179) between Reutte‑Süd and Nassereith. Drivers experienced losses of up to an hour and waited more than half an hour in some sections.

ÖAMTC provided real‑time traffic information and urged motorists to check its online route planner or mobile app for updates.
