Amtrak introduces new Airo trainsets to Cascades route
Amtrak has launched its new Airo trainsets on the Amtrak Cascades route, marking the first time these specific trains have been used for passenger service in the United States. The initial deployment includes two trainsets that will operate four daily trips connecting Vancouver, B.C., Seattle, Portland, and Eugene.
Designed specifically for the Pacific Northwest, the Airo trains feature a color theme inspired by the Cascade Mountains. Each trainset accommodates more than 300 passengers and includes modern amenities such as ergonomic seating, panoramic windows, high-speed Wi-Fi, individual power outlets, and USB-C ports. The new fleet is intended to increase capacity and improve reliability while replacing older equipment.
Amtrak officials noted that the rollout is part of a broader effort to modernize passenger rail across the country. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy highlighted that the project supported hundreds of American jobs during the manufacturing and testing phases.
