Amtrak Airo deployment on Cascades route

Overview

Amtrak has launched its new Airo trainsets on the Amtrak Cascades route, which serves the Pacific Northwest corridor between Eugene, Oregon, and Vancouver, British Columbia. The deployment marks the first time these specific trains have been used for passenger service in the United States.

The new equipment replaces aging Amfleet trains with semi-permanently coupled six-car units designed to improve ride comfort and reliability. Each trainset can accommodate over 300 passengers and features modern amenities such as ergonomic seating, panoramic windows, high-speed Wi-Fi, and individual power outlets with USB-C ports.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy noted that the project supported hundreds of American jobs during manufacturing and testing. While the current speed limit on the Cascades route is 79 mph, the trains are capable of reaching 125 mph on the Northeast Corridor starting next year.
