An Giang courts sentence former police chief and bank employee for fraud

The An Giang Provincial People's Court has issued several prison sentences in connection with major fraud and money laundering cases.

In one case, Nguyễn Hoàng Phúc, a former bank employee, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for fraud. Phúc used forged credit contracts and the identity of Trương Nhựt Tới to misappropriate funds, including 3 billion VND from one victim and an additional 4.6 billion VND from three others. The money was reportedly used for personal expenses and investments in a virtual stock exchange called Coinet. Tới received a 3-year sentence for his involvement.

In a separate major ruling, Lê Văn Mót, the former Chief of Police in Phú Quốc, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for fraud. Between 2018 and 2023, Mót leveraged his position and knowledge of land management to facilitate illegal land sales involving state-managed forest land. He and Nguyễn Thị Hằng defrauded victims of more than 67.74 billion VND.

Hằng received a total sentence of 30 years, comprising 20 years for fraud and 10 years for money laundering, after transferring over 21 billion VND to relatives and acquaintances to purchase property and goods.
