An Giang police warn of AI‑enhanced Zalo scams targeting trusted users

Police in Vietnam's An Giang province have issued a warning about a surge in Zalo account hijacking schemes. Fraudsters seize control of accounts belonging to officials, community leaders and other high‑trust individuals, then send messages or make video calls asking relatives and colleagues for urgent money transfers.

The scams employ fake links, QR‑code requests, OTP extraction, and malicious app installations. More sophisticated attacks use artificial‑intelligence‑generated facial images and voice recordings to impersonate the account holder during video calls, making verification difficult. Victims have suffered significant financial losses after believing the calls were genuine.

Authorities advise users not to share passwords or OTP codes, avoid unknown links or QR codes, verify any money‑request through a separate phone call or in‑person contact, and strengthen account security with strong passwords, two‑factor authentication and regular app updates.
