An Giang riverbank erosion forces emergency evacuations

Ongoing riverbank erosion along the Hau River in An Giang province has forced several households to undergo emergency relocation. In My Hoa Hung commune, a landslide spanning approximately 50 meters has eroded the bank by several meters, directly impacting residents in the My Khanh 1 area.

Local authorities, including military and police forces, have assisted residents in dismantling homes and moving property to safety. While no casualties have been reported, the erosion has caused property damage estimated at 250 million VND and has affected the local transportation infrastructure.

The affected area was previously identified as a high-risk zone by the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment. Authorities are currently working to reduce weight on the banks by removing vegetation and structures, while installing warning signs and barriers to prevent further accidents.
