An Giang to host seminar to locate remains of 300 fallen soldiers
An Giang province is scheduled to host a specialized seminar on August 25 to identify the locations of approximately 300 fallen soldiers' remains in the Tram Du forest area (also known as Rừng Tràm 800).
Historical records and accounts from veterans indicate that during early March 1970, units including Battalion 3 of the 429th Commando Brigade and Company 5 of the 75th Artillery Brigade suffered heavy casualties following aerial bombardments and ground attacks. Despite these records, the exact burial sites remain unverified due to over half a century of terrain changes and incomplete archival documentation.
The seminar, organized by Steering Committee 515 of the An Giang Provincial Military Command, aims to cross-reference historical documents with eyewitness testimonies. The goal is to establish a precise area for subsequent search, excavation, and repatriation of the remains to martyrs' cemeteries.
