Vietnamese provincial efforts to recover war remains
Overview
Vietnamese provincial military commands are initiating efforts to locate and recover the remains of fallen soldiers.
In Nghệ An, the Provincial Military Command has launched a 500-day campaign to identify and recover remains. A mission involving 40 personnel has departed for Laos to search for 110 sets of remains belonging to Vietnamese volunteers and experts in the provinces of Xieng Khouang, Vientiane, and Xaysomboun. This mission is scheduled to take place during the 2026-2027 dry season.
In An Giang, authorities are organizing a specialized seminar for August 25 to address the location of approximately 300 fallen soldiers in the Tram Du forest area. The seminar aims to cross-reference historical records with eyewitness testimonies to overcome challenges posed by terrain changes and incomplete documentation, facilitating future search and repatriation efforts.
