Ana Ciotloș leads digital revamp of Albești Library in Romania

Ana Ciotloș, a librarian in the rural village of Albești, Mureș County, has overseen a transformation of the local library into a digital‑skill hub. Starting her career in 1991, she now manages more than 22,300 volumes. The library hosts a weekly robotics club for children, teaches programming and sensor technology, and runs community groups such as “Carte pentru minte și inimă” and “Fetele Neînfricate”. In partnership with the Foundation Progres, the library offers Google Classroom lessons and mobile reading sessions, including public readings of “The Little Prince”. The project is part of Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), receiving €437 000 to equip the facility with state‑of‑the‑art IT equipment, positioning the former Haller Castle building as a modern centre for digital literacy.

These initiatives aim to bridge the digital divide for residents who lack access to city‑level educational resources, fostering lifelong learning across generations.
