Anac authorizes exceptional late-night flights at Congonhas Airport

The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) has approved a new interpretation of Resolution No. 55/2008, allowing flights at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo to operate after the standard 23:00 curfew under exceptional circumstances.

This measure is strictly limited to the completion of flights already scheduled for the day that have been delayed or interrupted by extraordinary events, such as adverse weather conditions or operational issues. It does not change the official operating hours of 06:00 to 23:00, nor does it permit airlines to schedule new departures or arrivals after the curfew.

The decision follows a request from the Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear) to mitigate the cascade effects that localized disruptions at Congonhas often have on the national flight network. To implement the rule, an Operational Agreement Letter will be developed by the Air Traffic Control Department, the airport concessionaire Aena Brasil, and airlines Latam, Azul, and Gol to establish objective criteria for what constitutes an exceptional situation.
