Anac bans passenger from flying following misconduct on Azul flight

The Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) has issued an unprecedented punishment against a passenger who exposed his genitalia and urinated in a common area during an Azul flight from Belém to Campinas on September 18.

As a result of the misconduct, the individual has been banned from flying for six months and fined R$ 17.5 thousand. This marks the first application of sanctions under Anac's new resolution regarding passenger indiscipline, which went into effect on September 14.

The regulation establishes a scale of penalties: formal warnings for light episodes, fines for serious infractions such as ground aggression, and severe sanctions for ‘gravíssimas’ (extremely serious) conduct. For the latter, which includes attacking crew members or attempting to enter the cockpit, penalties include ticket cancellation, domestic flight bans for up to 12 months, and the reimbursement of future tickets.
