ANAC introduces new codes to track flight delays and cancellations

The Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) has introduced new standardized codes to record the reasons for flight delays and cancellations. Published via Regulatory Ordinance No. 55 on August 11, 2026, the measure updates procedures within the Electronic Flight Registration System (SRV).

Instead of using generic descriptions, airlines must now use specific codes to categorize the causes of disruptions. These categories include airport infrastructure issues, air traffic control restrictions, runway obstructions, third-party strikes, and additional time required for boarding or assisting passengers with special needs.

This structured data will be accessible to the judiciary through INFOVOO, a platform managed through a partnership between ANAC and the National Council of Justice (CNJ). The goal is to provide judges with more objective information to determine airline liability in consumer lawsuits, distinguishing between company failures and external factors like weather or air traffic control.
