Anac suspends four sightseeing flight companies in Rio de Janeiro

The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) has suspended four sightseeing flight companies in Rio de Janeiro—VRP, Broad Fly, Nobre Turismo, and Mr. Top Fly—following a series of helicopter accidents that have resulted in 13 deaths over the last eight months. The suspension also grounds nine associated helicopters.

During an intensified inspection of the city's 12 authorized sightseeing operators, Anac officials reported that 50% of the inspected activities showed irregularities. These include evidence of falsified flight logs, where companies allegedly reported shorter flight times than actually flown to evade mandatory maintenance schedules.

In response to these findings and recent tragedies, including a crash in the Vista Chinesa region that killed three Colombian tourists and a pilot, the Rio de Janeiro municipal government has also prohibited five companies from using the Lagoa helipad. Anac has announced plans to revise the Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulation 136 (RBAC 136) by the end of the year to enhance safety standards and oversight for the tourism flight sector.
