Romania reports narrowing food and livestock trade deficit
Romania's trade deficit for food and livestock decreased by 13.5% during the first seven months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, reaching 2.2 billion euros. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), exports rose by 8.1% to approximately 4.5 billion euros, while imports fell by 1.4% to roughly 6.7 billion euros.
The most significant growth was observed in the dairy and egg sector, which saw exports increase by over 36%. Officials noted that these results validate government programs aimed at stimulating domestic production and increasing the processing of raw materials within the country to reduce import dependence.
