Anak Krakatau eruption disrupts Indonesian travel and leaves speedboat missing
The eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in Indonesia has caused significant disruptions to transportation and safety. Flight activities are gradually returning to normal at several airports, though the eruption previously led to the cancellation of approximately 30 flights, affecting nearly 5,000 passengers.
In the Sunda Strait, a search and rescue operation is underway for a missing speedboat reported to be carrying eight people, including five journalists who were covering the volcanic activity. Meanwhile, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has confirmed that ferry crossings between Merak and Bakauheni ports remain operational, with 28 to 30 ships serving approximately 144,000 passengers and 39,000 vehicles.
While the Geological Agency (Badan Geologi) reports that volcanic activity has recently decreased, authorities remain on alert. Volcanic ash has entered Lampung Bay, and health officials in regions like Tasikmalaya are preparing medical facilities to manage potential respiratory issues caused by ash inhalation.
