Anak Krakatau eruption disrupts Indonesian aviation and flights
The eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau has caused widespread aviation disruptions across Indonesia due to volcanic ash dispersal. At least eight airports have faced temporary closures, including Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma in Jakarta, as well as facilities in Lampung, Bandung, Tangerang Selatan, and South Sumatra.
The disruptions have affected approximately 170,000 passengers, with 1,558 flights reported as delayed or canceled. The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta has advised Malaysian citizens traveling to or through Soekarno-Hatta to check their flight status with airlines following impacts on routes including those to Kuala Lumpur.
In the sports sector, the Persija Jakarta football team was forced to alter its travel plans following a match in Samarinda. Due to the closure of Soekarno-Hatta, the squad traveled via Balikpapan and Yogyakarta, eventually completing the journey to Jakarta by bus.
