Anak Krakatau eruption: Eight Indonesian airports resume normal flight operations
Flight operations at eight Indonesian airports, including Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma, have returned to normal following disruptions caused by the eruption of Anak Krakatau.
Between September 5 and September 8, 2026, the volcanic activity significantly impacted aviation, affecting approximately 4,174 flights and 455,754 passengers. InJourney reported that major hubs like Soekarno-Hatta were among the most heavily impacted. During the peak of the activity, a continuous eruption lasted roughly 25 hours, sending ash clouds as high as 15 kilometers into the atmosphere.
Despite the recent return to normal operations, the volcano remains at Level III (Siaga) status. Authorities, including the Ministry of Transportation, BMKG, and PVMBG, continue to monitor volcanic activity and ash levels closely to ensure continued flight safety.
