Anak Krakatau erupts multiple times, ash plume reaches up to 250 m

On 8 July 2026 the Anak Krakatau volcano in the Sunda Strait erupted repeatedly over a 12‑hour period. Five distinct eruptions were recorded between 00:11 WIB and 09:35 WIB, producing ash columns that rose between 100 m and 250 m, with the highest plume observed at 250 m and directed toward the northwest. Seismograph readings showed amplitudes ranging from 24 mm to 49 mm and durations of 27 to 44 seconds.

The Geological Agency (Badan Geologi) classified the volcano at Alert Level III (Siaga) and imposed a 3‑kilometre exclusion zone around the crater, urging residents, tourists and hikers to stay clear of the area. Monitoring of the volcano’s activity continues.
