Anak Krakatau volcano experiences frequent eruptions

Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, Lampung Selatan, has experienced intense volcanic activity, including 11 eruptions recorded on Monday, August 24, 2026, and further eruptions on Tuesday, August 25.

On Tuesday, an eruption occurred at 12:31 WIB, sending a grey to black ash column approximately 400 meters above the peak, or 557 meters above sea level. The eruption lasted 61 seconds with a maximum seismograph amplitude of 56 millimeters.

Prior to this, on Monday, the volcano erupted repeatedly throughout the day. One afternoon eruption recorded a maximum amplitude of 67 millimeters and lasted 26 seconds, with ash moving toward the north and northeast.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has issued warnings for the public, tourists, and climbers to avoid the area. Activities are strictly prohibited within a 3-kilometer radius of the active crater to mitigate potential dangers.
