Anambra building collapse kills worker during demolition

A 25-year-old worker, identified as Bakeru Iwal, died following a partial building collapse in Otolo-Nnewi, located within the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 29, while workers were performing demolition work on an old structure. A section of the building suddenly caved in, trapping Iwal.

Anambra State Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that officers from the Otolo Divisional Headquarters responded to the scene, cordoned off the area, and began preliminary investigations. The deceased was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy. Commissioner of Police Nnanna Ama has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances of the collapse and establish if any parties are held responsible.
