Anambra State Governor brokers peace in Aguleri-Umuoba Anam land dispute
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has convened a high-level stakeholders meeting in Awka to address the violent land dispute between the Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities. The conflict has resulted in loss of life, including a minor and an unarmed individual, as well as the destruction of property such as the Idigo Palace.
During the summit, which included traditional rulers and community leaders, the governor directed security agencies to maintain a constant presence in the affected areas to ensure order. To facilitate a permanent resolution, Soludo has established a commission of inquiry.
The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) has also appealed to both communities to abandon violence in favor of dialogue and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms. The CLO emphasized that communal clashes benefit no one and urged leaders to counsel their subjects to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
